Gianni Infantino has delivered a firm stance on player behaviour during on-field confrontations, particularly concerning potential racist remarks.
Speaking on the matter, the FIFA president stated:
“If a player covers his mouth during on-pitch rows and says something, and this has a racist consequence, he has to be sent off.
This is on the presumption they are being offensive, because if you’re not saying something offensive, then why are you covering your mouth?”
Infantino’s comments suggest a tougher approach toward incidents where players attempt to conceal their speech during heated exchanges. FIFA has continued to emphasize its zero-tolerance policy toward racism and discriminatory behaviour in football.
The remarks indicate that disciplinary measures could become more immediate and severe if officials suspect racist intent during matches.
